Karmesha Washington Smith
Councilwoman Karmesha Washington Smith is a principled, forward-thinking leader committed to transparency, accountability, and community-centered governance in Stonecrest. A proud District 5 resident and product of DeKalb County’s Cedar Grove High School, she brings extensive civic, corporate, and nonprofit leadership experience to the City Council.
Her dedication to public service began as a technology support intern with DeKalb County Parks and Recreation, where she later worked for nearly three years after graduating from Georgia Southern University. She has continued serving the community through numerous roles, including Vice President of the Klondike Area Civic Association, Co-Chair of Delta GEMS (Decatur Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.), Chair of the Principal Advisory Council at E.L. Bouie Elementary, and Program Lead for Women in Technology, focusing on career development and equity.
Professionally, Karmesha is a Principal Cybersecurity Program Manager, leading major initiatives, cross-functional teams, and multimillion-dollar portfolios. Known for her problem-solving, consensus-building, and operational discipline, she brings the same commitment to excellence and accountability to City Hall.
She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems, a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Project Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Leadership.
Grounded in strong Christian values instilled by her parents, married for over 50 years, and her father’s ministerial influence, Karmesha leads with faith, humility, and purpose. As the eldest of five, and a wife and mother, she understands the importance of safe neighborhoods, strong schools, and responsive government.
On the Stonecrest City Council, she is committed to:
- Transparent governance and responsible stewardship of public resources
- Community-driven growth that benefits all residents
- Safer streets and stronger infrastructure, including sidewalks, lighting, and traffic improvements
- Operational excellence and reducing inefficiencies
- Collaborative leadership with regional partners and community groups
- People-first policy, ensuring residents’ voices guide decisions
Councilwoman Smith serves District 5 with integrity, innovation, and a steadfast belief that Stonecrest deserves better—and together, we can make it the better we deserve.
